Business Crime Solicitors discuss evolving role of the SFO

In an article published in The Times on 11 November 2013 there was yet a further indication that the Director of the SFO, David Green QC, intends to reinvigorate the SFO’s reputation as a frontline prosecutor, explain our Business Crime Solicitors.

He reiterated the SFO’s aim of securing greater information from the UK’s intelligence services, and it is believed that this may initially involve targeted sweeps of specific sectors, which in the first instance may focus on the energy and construction industries.

Recent commentary has suggested that the SFO is under pressure to demonstrate greater effectiveness in tackling corporate crime, and this latest initiative may be an attempt to address that criticism.
