Alan Morris, a former teacher at St Ambrose RC College in Altrincham, has been charged with 41 counts of indecent assault, one count of outraging public decency and five of inciting gross indecency. It is alleged that the offences took place between 1972 and 1991 and involved 29 former pupils of the school aged between 11 and 17.
Morris appeared before Manchester Magistrates’ Court on 25th July 2013 where he denied the charges; no formal plea has been entered. He was subsequently placed on bail and the hearing was adjourned until 15th August 2013 when Morris will appear at Manchester Crown Court for a preliminary hearing.
It is reported that at the time of the arrest Morris worked as a church deacon at Holy Angels Church in Hale Barns. The Shrewsbury Diocese has said that the alleged offences are unrelated to his ministry as a deacon. However, they have withdrawn Morris from active ministry awaiting the outcome of the proceedings.
