In what may be an important statement of intent from the newly created Financial Conduct Authority, 8 people have been charged with conspiracy to defraud and other offences in relation to an alleged illegal land banking scheme.
The charges follow successful civil proceedings taken by the former FSA against Plott UK Limited, European Property Investments (UK) Limited and Stirling Alexander Limited relating to the same scheme. The FCA has indicated it will take a robust approach to enforcement using all the powers including criminal prosecution, at its disposal, and this may be a sign of things to come.
