Nisha Sharma looks to future positive outcomes following Mr Paterson's suspension

By Senior Associate, Clinical Negligence

I was pleased to read in the Birmingham Mail that Mr Paterson has been suspended from his NHS hospital as well as from the private hospitals, Little Aston Spire and Parkway Hospitals.

He was carrying out mastectomies incorrectly leaving cancer patients exposed to unnecessary and potentially fatal risk.

I am however concerned with how long it is taking for his patients to be re-called; there has been concern over his conduct for a long time, yet I am hearing about patients who have not had re-call letters and the problem seems to be worse if the patient was treated privately.

I look forward to hearing the results of the GMC’s investigation.
