Headway UK are once again participating in this year's London Marathon on Sunday April 17th.
Headway have over 30 runners all enduring the huge 26.2 mile challenge ; this will not only no doubt be overwhelmingly satisfying for those participating on a personal level but will also raise awareness and significant funds for Headway UK, aiding them in their support of Brain injury survivors and their families.
It is now as important as ever that the work of Headway is recognised. The impact of Government cuts to local authorities may have a negative impact on the crucial work undertaken by Headway Groups and Branches.
Peter McCabe, Headway Chief Executive, recently met with the Prime Minister and explained that the concept of the Big Society is not new, Headway was formed on that principle many years ago. Headway provides a vital role in local communities which may be put at risk if local authorities make unnecessary cuts to service providers. It was pleasing to hear that the Prime Minister has made it clear that the Government wishes to be made aware of councils imposing disproportionate cuts rather than looking to make internal savings.
There are also understandable concerns in relation to G.Ps taking over control of commissioning services in light of pressures to save money from the health budget. It is imperative that G.P's see the value of such services as offered by Headway in support of Brain Injury Survivors and their families.
So the London Marathon presents a great opportunity to promote not just healthy living but the tremendous work of Headway and its campaigning on behalf of Brain Injury sufferers and all those working industriously to improve the lives of so many people.
We at Slater and Gordon Lawyers are delighted to be Headway UK's London Marathon sponsors this year and wish all participants the very best of luck in their endeavours. Each stride represents a huge step in supporting Brain in jury victim.
