Goals Still Being Scored in Life after WAG-dom
According to a recent article in the Manchester Evening News, after the ever popular WAG label used by the media during the World Cup in 2002 to name those ladies who were lucky enough (some would argue otherwise) to end up in a relationship or even be married to a footballer, ex-WAGs have now adopted the new label of 'SWAG', Separated Wives & Girlfriends of Footballers.
It appears that former partners of footballers are rallying together in true ‘girl power’ style to make sure that there is still life after being what may have been a fairly cushy standard of living. Such ladies are advocating for all SWAGs that they too can form their own successful career and do not need to rely upon their former partner’s wealth in order to achieve their dreams.
In this case perhaps the SWAGs were lucky enough to receive a tidy lump sum from an overall financial settlement, which helped them to achieve their life-long business ambitions of setting up a beauty salon, whereas they may have never had the financial backing to achieve such a goal if they had not had the opportunity to have a longstanding relationship or marriage with their footballers.
