DePuy Failure Rate as High as 49%

The latest on the DePuy hip cases is that the failure rate is an astonishing 49%. It is estimated that there have been approximately 10,000 ASR hips fitted in the UK since 2003; 49%  of which are probably faulty.

DePuy recalled both the ASR XL and an ASR hip resurfacing system in August. At the time, DePuy cited unpublished data from the National Joint Registry of England and Wales saying 13 percent of ASR XL patients required second surgeries in five years, and 12 percent of patients with the resurfaced hips needed such operations within five years.

It seems as though the problem is much bigger than first anticipated by DePuy and the number of people wanting to claim compensation is increasing all the time.
