John Downes Solicitor, Driving Offences
John is a solicitor in the London Crime & Misconduct Department.
His practice encompasses advising and representing Police Federation clients facing criminal and misconduct allegations as well as those involved in death or serious injury cases. In addition, John represents clients facing driving offences allegations.
John has experience in representing clients in high profile IPCC investigations such as the Pro-Hunt demonstration cases, ‘Plebgate’ and the Enfield Crime Squad ‘waterboarding’ allegations. None of these resulted in any criminal conviction.
John also has extensive experience in representing clients in serious Misconduct in Public Office allegations.
John has had success in representing a client accused of driving whilst using a mobile phone and careless driving. Despite the testimony of two traffic police officers, John’s client, also a police officer, was acquitted.
John trained at Russell Jones & Walker (now Slater and Gordon) and qualified in 2008. John graduated with a degree in Economics & Public Policy from Leeds Polytechnic before joining the Metropolitan Police. After serving for 13 years John retrained in law, qualifying as a solicitor in 2008.
