There have been reports that Spire Parkway Hospital in the West Midlands, and Spire Leeds Hospital in Leeds have been carrying out investigations into patients who have received negligent treatment and surgery.
It’s recently been confirmed that there are concerns that several surgeons carried out unnecessary surgeries at Spire Parkway in the West Midlands and Spire Leeds and as a result, over 200 patients have been recalled.

Why have I received a recall letter?
If you’ve been recalled then you’ll have been identified as someone who may have undergone unnecessary, inadequate or inappropriate surgery or treatment. Often a recall of this size will be as a result of concerns being raised about the care of patients who have undergone similar surgeries or treatment to you within a set time period.
What will happen at the recall appointment?
Usually, you’ll be invited to attend an appointment to discuss your treatment. If your treatment has been reviewed then you’ll be advised of the outcome of this. You may also undergo a physical examination. Occasionally this appointment will take place by telephone.
If you have questions you wish to ask at the appointment, then it’s often sensible to write them down and take them in with you. Questions that you may wish to consider asking include:
- Who reviewed your treatment, what’s their level of qualification and are they independent?
- Which of your records have been considered during the review process?
- Do you need to have a further scan, or further tests, to check your current condition?
- If you are a victim of potential negligence, is there a risk of future complications?
You may also request a copy of the outcome of your review in writing so that you may refer to it at a later stage and digest the information in your own time.
If you’re anxious it may be possible to take a family member or friend in with you, but you should check before attending that this is allowed. If you’re unable to attend in person you may be able to get a copy of the review summary sent to you.
What do I do if I have concerns but haven’t received a recall letter?
If you’re not recalled, but you have concerns about the treatment you received, you can still contact Spire to ask them to consider whether your treatment was reasonable. You’re also entitled to request a copy of your medical records and you can still seek legal advice if you remain concerned about the treatment you received.
What should I do next?
If it’s found that the treatment you received was negligent then you’re entitled to make a claim for financial compensation for your injuries.
