A six-figure settlement was awarded to the family of a former labourer who died from terminal cancer caused by exposure to asbestos at work.
Slater and Gordon Solicitor: Emma Newman is a legal executive specialising in asbestos claims at Slater and Gordon in Manchester.
Settlement: Six-figure settlement.
What Happened: Our client worked as a general labourer at a chemicals factory in Lancashire. For many years he was regularly required to strip asbestos lagging off pipework in order to make repairs. He was not provided with a mask or protective equipment.
Impact: Our client developed mesothelioma, an incurable and aggressive form of lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure.
How Slater and Gordon Helped: We visited our client who was by this time in hospital and took the crucial evidence of his asbestos exposure. Sadly he was already very ill at this point and passed away shortly afterwards. We brought a claim on behalf of his family through the Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme.
Decision: The scheme accepted the claim and a six-figure sum was paid.
